20+ years experience in executive leadership.
Hi! I'm James the principal consultant at insight & foresight, where I utilise my experience in business, understanding of the changing world, and knowledge of what's to come to help business leaders make better decisions.
For over two decades, I’ve had the privilege of sitting in executive leadership roles, navigating the complexities of sectors from medical research to community services and economic development. Across these diverse fields, one common thread always emerged: the leaders who thrived were the ones who could look beyond the immediate horizon and prepare for what was coming next.
I've always been driven by a deep curiosity about the forces that shape our world. Early in my career, I realised that achieving sustainable results wasn't just about optimising operations or engaging customers - it was about understanding the bigger picture. It was about seeing the subtle signals of change and translating them into actionable strategy. This fascination led me down a path of deliberately building a specific set of skills. I didn't just want to manage the present; I wanted to help organisations prepare for and shape their futures.
This pursuit pushed me to blend practical experience with a commitment to continuous learning. Building on my economics and communications graduate studies and my extensive executive experience I have immersed myself in frameworks that could help decipher our futures, earning credentials in Design Thinking for Innovation, Business Analytics and Visualisation, and Developing Artificial Intelligence Strategy. These weren't just credentials; they were tools to help me connect the dots between emerging technology, data analysis, and human-centred solutions.
My journey has been one of moving from traditional leadership to a focus on long-term thinking. It’s a shift from asking "What should we do now?" to "What might we need to become in the next decade?" As a member of the Association of Professional Futurists, I am connected to a global community dedicated to exploring these questions with rigour and creativity.
My origin story isn't about a single moment of revelation, but a career-long dedication to understanding the dynamics of change. It’s about a passion for equipping leaders with the foresight to not only face an uncertain future but to embrace it with confidence and create meaningful, lasting impact. This is the foundation upon which insight & foresight was built—to help you see, prepare for, and shape what's next.
”With me, you won't just be seeing solutions for today - but creating them for tomorrow.”

"Too often, organisations rely on cut-and-paste planning, copying what was done before (by themselves and others) rather than creating original plans responding to, and preparing for, the changing world around them."
